A corridor may be highway, railway or oil and gas pipe line. Corridor mapping is a major use case in the field of engineering surveying. These surveys are conducted using survey grade equipment. It is done using ELECTRONIC TOTAL STATION, GPS and generally Airborne LaserTerrain Mapping is used. The maintenance and management of corridors for utilities and transportation assets is critical for infrastructure projects. The identification and mapping of corridors is usually based on visual interpretations of movement patterns (functional corridors) or habitat maps (structural corridors)
CORRIDOR MAPPING USING ALTM:
This is among the most interesting applications of LiDAR data.A helicopter bound LiDAR sensor is generally used for mapping of corridor by flying at lower altitude for collecting accurate and dense data of corridors. The data are useful in planning the corridor and during execution of work and later for monitoring the deflections, possible areas of repair etc. High density of data facilitates generation of a record of the assets of the corridor.
